Description:

These three images show a rope of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNT) being teased out of a water-dispersed nanotube cluster with holographic optical tweezers (BioRyx 200 System, Arryx, Inc.).  The superimposed triangle shows the position of the optical tweezer used to extract the rope. Comparable results are obtained with single-wall nanotubes. Images such as this establish the utility of optical tweezers for manipulating and processing carbon nanotubes.
