Description:

A scanning electron microscope image of a "nanobrush" of vertically aligned nanotubes obtained by printing a catalyst on a substrate: the nanotubes only grow at the catalyst sites (by the thermal decomposition of a reaction gas).  Nanofabrication of this type uses a molded stamp to print "ink" of catalyst chemicals onto a surface, which then allows nanotube growth to nucleate.  This type of lithography is commonly known as "soft lithography".
