Description:

Discovered by accident, an injection of quantum dots (very small nanocrystals of semiconductor material) can allow researchers to visual the lymph system of live specimens.  Quantum Dots (QD) fluoresce brightly, and often in a certain color when light is shined on them.  The QDs are so tiny however, that they can be carried throughout the body.  In the above image, a light shining through this mouse causes the QD deposits to become incredibly visible.  This technique could allow researchers and doctors to easily identify the location of problem cells and different systems in the body.
