    Description:

Nanotubes are one of the most popular nano-structures and are very promising for electronic and optical applications.  Most nanotubes are made of carbon, but in recent years researchers have succeeded in synthesizing nanotubes from other materials.  Above is a Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) image of a novel Tungsten Sulfide nanotube.  The TEM highlights the multi-walled construction of the nanotube.  The seven layers of concentric cylinder walls can clearly be seen in the image.  TEM is one of the key analytical tools of nanoscience.
