Description:

Nanotechnology generally includes technological advances that have feature sizes below 100nm.  Many areas of nanotechnology and nanoscience are also pushing to be the future replacement for current semiconductor "micro"chip technology.  Research into nanotubes, nanoparticles, molecular electronics and the like are making progress while being only tens of nanometers in size.  We can't ignore the fact that at the same time amazing progress is being made in microfabrication.  The current generation of Intel's Pentium 4 processor has copper interconnects only .13 microns or 130 nanometers long.  Microfabrication is closing the gap with nanofabrication.   We may yet see mainstream semiconductor technology and photolithography push down into the true nano realm before the semiconductor roadmap runs out.
